We will continue to work with the private sector to see what resources we can find through joint efforts to make fuel prices cheaper for the public, said today the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Such a statement Mariam Kvrivishvili made after the meeting within the government commission with major fuel sector companies, where they thoroughly discussed Georgia’s current situation and global trends regarding fuel prices.

“While fuel prices in Georgia are notably lower than in European countries, thanks largely to the Government’s prudent policy on excise duties, which are on average three times lower than in Europe, it remains crucial for the state to continue engaging with the private sector.

Excise duty is the primary factor behind Georgia’s cheaper fuel compared to Europe.

Despite this, it is of utmost importance that the government maintains its efforts with the private sector to explore resources and strategies to reduce fuel prices further”, - explained the Minister.

Meeting with representatives of major fuel companies was held at the Government Administration under the leadership of the Prime Minister, as part of the Cross-Government Coordination Commission on Consumer Prices.
