One person detained on the fact of illegal transportation of a particularly large quantity of gold bars across the customs border

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by representatives of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, together with representatives of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, under the coordination of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, one person was detained on the fact of violation of the rule related to the transportation of an especially large quantity of goods across the customs border.

As a result of measures conducted on the basis of operative information, it was determined that a citizen of the Russian Federation brought gold bars weighing 713.3 grams, with a customs value of GEL 143,817, across the customs border of Georgia through the “Kazbegi” Customs Checkpoint, concealing them from customs control.

Investigation is underway under Article 214, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
