The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, met with Lazar Comanescu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).

The meeting focused on Georgia`s assumption of the organization`s chairmanship, effective 1 January 2026, and on reviewing the cooperation agenda for this period. The parties addressed the priorities of Georgia`s six-month chairmanship, highlighting the country`s role in the region and the achievements made through the consistent policy.

According to the Minister, Georgia, during its chairmanship, aims to deepen regional dialogue and to strengthen the strategic role of the Black Sea as an integral component of European and global security.

The meeting also focused on the challenges facing the region, with particular emphasis placed on the importance of upholding the international order based on the norms and principles of international law. Maka Botchorishvili reaffirmed to the Secretary General of the BSEC Georgia`s readiness to make maximum efforts, within the framework of its chairmanship, to enhance the effectiveness of the organization.

Together with Lazar Comanescu, they delivered joint statements to the press regarding Georgia`s chairmanship of the BSEC. Foreign Minister noted that, Georgia will, over the next six months, make every effort to ensure the effective functioning of the Organization: "The priorities of the Chairmanship will include strengthening regional connectivity and promoting the development of the Middle Corridor, ensuring energy security, and enhancing the region`s tourism potential and cultural ties".

Within the framework of his visit to Tbilisi, the Secretary-General of the BSEC is holding meetings with senior officials from the executive and legislative branches of government.
