Veterinarians from the National Food Agency are conducting free identification (microchipping) and anti-rabies vaccination of pet dogs in the regions using the door-to-door principle. In parallel, informational meetings are being held with the population, according to the National Food Agency [NFA].

"Deputy Head of the NFA, Aleksandre Zurabishvili, visited Gurjaani Municipality to observe the microchipping process firsthand, emphasising that the initiative covers all regions to help prevent animals from being abandoned on the streets.

In regional areas, owned dogs are receiving free microchipping, vaccination, and neutering services.

Veterinary procedures are being carried out across stationary clinics, mobile clinics, and field settings by private veterinary practices selected through a public tender process. Veterinary officers from the NFA are providing continuous oversight to ensure that all procedures comply fully with the required standards.

The overpopulation management scheme encompasses the identification, registration, vaccination, and spaying or neutering of stray, community, and owned dogs alike. This initiative aims to curb the spread of animal diseases, enhance animal welfare, and foster a safer environment for the public.
