The Prosecutor`s Office of Georgia has charged one person with violating traffic safety rules on the Gomi Mtsi road in Ozurgeti Municipality, which resulted in the deaths of four people.

An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on August 12, while driving on the 16th kilometer of the Gomi Mountain Road in Ozurgeti Municipality, the driver of a minibus, who did not have a driver's license category appropriate for transporting such a number of passengers and who was nevertheless transporting foreign tourists, failed to ensure safe driving of the vehicle, left the roadway, fell into a ravine and crashed into a tree. As a result, 4 passengers of the vehicle died, and 16 passengers of the minibus received multiple injuries.

Law enforcement officers arrested the driver of the vehicle. The detainee was charged under Article 276, Part 8 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violation of traffic safety rules by the person driving the vehicle, which resulted in the death of more than two people), which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor`s Office has already petitioned the court to impose imprisonment as a preventive measure against the accused.
