Threat level in the Devdoraki Gorge has been lifted, and a recommendation to reopen the road has already been issued - NEA

According to the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, on August 13, at approximately 14:00, the alarm system installed in the Devdoraki Gorge detected a mudflow process, at which point the system immediately transmitted an alert signal to the Larsi Border Checkpoint.

As a result of a visual inspection of the Gorge by the agency’s specialists, no slope failures or traces of rockfall processes were observed on the glacier and its surrounding territory.

The aforementioned alarm system was installed in the Devdoraki River Gorge by the National Environmental Agency, and its effectiveness has been tested and approved for gorges located near road infrastructure, allowing for the immediate implementation of actions defined by the protocol.

According to the National Environmental Agency, the threat level in the Devdoraki Gorge has been lifted at this time.

In coordination with the Emergency Management Agency, the Patrol Police, the Revenue Service, the Border Police, the Kazbegi Municipality, and the Dariali HPP administration, the agency has issued a recommendation to reopen the road.
