Functions of the Personal Data Protection Service will be transferred to the State Audit Service, functions of the Business Ombudsman - to the Ministry of Economy. Such a statement made today Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

"Tackling corruption remains one of the government’s top priorities. Significant steps have been taken in this direction recently. The process involves the Department of Government Administration Efficiency, State Audit Office, the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service, and Prosecutor’s Office.

Currently, the Anti-Corruption Bureau primarily handles the collection and monitoring of declarations from officials, political parties, and non-governmental organisations. Following consultations with the government, it was agreed that this function would be better suited to the State Audit Office, an independent, higher constitutional institution operating within the framework of public governance. In line with this initiative, it has been announced that the Anti-Corruption Bureau will be abolished from March 2, 2026, with its responsibilities fully transferred to the State Audit Office.

Besides, the Business Ombudsman, which, within the framework of the new institutional arrangement, will be transferred to the Ministry of Economy from January 1, 2026, which will ensure a more operational response to business needs and better coordination at the political level. Overall, the above-mentioned changes will ensure the alignment of the governance system with the institutional framework established by the Constitution, the optimization of state resources by approximately 20 million GEL annually, the simplification of structural functions, clearer responsibilities and effective management", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
