National Environment Agency reported to the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee on the activity for 2025

The Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee heard the activity report for 2025 of the National Environment Agency, introduced by the Director of the Agency, Elene Gubianuri.

She reviewed the structural changes in the Agency, the tasks and assignments, as well as challenges and the short and long-term perspectives of her institution.

She underlined the new functions acquired by the Agency after the reorganization, such as meteorology, hydrology and geology. She emphasized the new functions, such as the development of the conclusions on the compliance with the maximum permissible norms for vehicle emissions set out in EU legislation, the communication on the waste management plans etc.

The reporter accentuated the monitoring of the ambient air quality and the groundwater and surface water, and the natural threats; as she underscored, the installation of the aerological station is a novelty.

She informed MPs about geodynamic processes and the associated challenges, including the development of detailed and large-scale zoning maps, creation of the geological threat databases and catalogues. She also highlighted the shortage of human resources.
