For these political parties, for their own narrow political goals, everything, any action is acceptable - Makhashvili on the opposition

For these political parties, for their own narrow political goals, everything, any action is acceptable. Such a statement made today Chairman of the parliamentary committee on European integration, Levan Makhashvili, while commenting the information, released by the “Prime Time”.

“It doesn’t matter if it harms the state, harms society or harms something else. I myself have witnessed many times, from a different position, in a different role, how these people made such demands that, in the end, would harm the country, and even today, the fact is that they continue to do this. Why? This is the main thing.

Because they see the cancellation of this visa-free regime as an opportunity and a weapon of political struggle. When there are no weapons and levers left inside, they are trying to make various types of political changes from the outside with this type of pressure”, - said Levan Makhashvili.

Radical opposition was asking foreign allies in Brussels to suspend visa liberalisation for Georgia by the end of November, writes “Prime Time”. According to the media outlet, opposition is convincing high-ranking officials in Brussels that pressure on Government officials alone would not bring results. According to a source from Brussels, the EU believes that Government representatives may be intimidated by imposing certain restrictions on them, but opposition is convincing European bureaucrats that this step alone will have zero effect on the leadership of Georgian Dream. In turn, European bureaucrats, on the contrary, consider this position as an argument against suspending visa liberalisation and say that if the Georgians overcome the suspension of visa liberalisation and don’t change the Government in this case, it will become practically impossible to sway them and Europe will be forced to talk to the current Government.
