The Defense and Security Committee deliberated on the Draft Defense Code for the I reading.
The Draft Code, introduced by Grigol Giorgadze, the Deputy Defence Minister, specifies issues related to the head of a military higher educational institution, enrollment in a military school, and volunteering in the defense sector.
As per the reporter, in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Code, the conscript before the conscription shall be subject to the medical examination; however, the practice reveals the facts necessitating the additional medical tests; hence, the amendments specify the facts of avoiding additional medical examinations.
Besides, the amendments replace the term “rector” in regards to the Rector of the David Agmashenebeli National Defense Academy with the term “commander”.
Alexander Tabatadze, Chair of the Committee, expressed a positive assessment of the amendments, noting that over 50% of the conscripts have volunteered for military service for the first time in the country’s history.
The Committee approved the Draft.
