The United National Movement [UNM] has decided to initiate constitutional proceedings against the Georgian Dream. Such a statement made today Levan Bezhashvili, one of the leaders of the party.
“We decided to commence legal proceedings against the Georgian Dream [GD].
By seizing power and manipulating elections, the illegitimate parliament of the GD has enacted legislation that persecutes anyone holding dissenting views.
Ordinary protesters, civil activists, civil organisations, and TV stations are already being targeted, and now the turn has come for political parties to be banned.
We will initiate constitutional proceedings at the request of our international partners and the legal community, despite our limited confidence in the Georgian Constitutional Court, which has been hijacked and has largely served political interests in recent years. This process will play a crucial role in our subsequent case before the European Court in Strasbourg. Accordingly, we will work to file lawsuits against the GD in multiple stages”, - said Levan Bezhashvili.
