Shalva Papuashvili met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Israel

Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Israel, Walid Abu Haya.

Shalva Papuashvili congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and extended his best wishes for his future endeavours.

The parties emphasised the longstanding friendship between the Georgian and Israeli nations and the productive cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador highlighted the traditional strength and diversity of the people-to-people ties between the nations, evidenced by the increased number of visitors from Israel to Georgia.

The Speaker expressed his gratitude to Israel for it`s support for the territorial integrity of Georgia. He emphasized the positive dynamics of parliamentary cooperation and underscored the friendly relations with the Speaker of the Knesset, Mr. Amir Ohana, as well as the frequent and productive exchanges between the Friendship Groups. As noted, Georgia would appreciate the exchange of experience of Israel within the reforms scheduled by the Georgian Parliament.

The parties underlined the significance of the joint ceremony of the Georgian Parliament and the Embassy of Israel dedicated to the victims of Holocaust.

The two sides reviewed the situation in the Near East. Shalva Papuashvili stated that Georgia supports sustainable peace and stability in Near East, and the Ambassador provided detailed information about the peace building process, the positions of the parties and further prospects.
