Speaker of the Georgian Parliament responds to the appointment of Alexander Kartozia as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Federal Republic of Germany.

"I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Professor Dr. Alexander Kartosia with his appointment as Georgia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. That Dr. Kartosia, as scholar and statesman, is highly regarded both in Georgia and Germany, where, apart from his academic work, he was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, speaks volumes about the importance that Georgian Government attaches to this appointment.

There is neither a single Georgian with ties to Germany nor a German with ties to Georgia, who would be unaware of his role in the relations of the two countries. It would be fair to say that Dr. Kartosia has always been Georgia’s ambassador to Germany, even before his formal appointment. These personal and academic credentials are a huge advantage for any ambassador to be a veritable bridge, not a wall, in the relationship of the two countries.

It is regrettable that Georgian-German relations are at an unacceptably low mark currently. They must return to their appropriate dynamic and volume, based on the very foundations that were laid in the 1990s – mutual respect for the principles of national sovereignty and democratic legitimacy", - writes Shalva Papuashvili on X.
