As a result of a joint operational measure and investigative actions, officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance detained a foreign citizen, I.S., born in 1988, on charges of drug trafficking.

The detainee is charged with illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotics and illegal import of a particularly large amount of narcotics into Georgia.

The committed crime envisions up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Law enforcement officers, as a result of checking the detainee’s luggage at Tbilisi International Airport, seized 19 kilograms and 400 grams of the narcotic drug "marijuana" packed in 34 packages as evidence.

The investigation is in progress under Article 260, Part III, Subparagraph “a” and Article 262, Part IV, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
