Mayor of Tbilisi responds to the President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s open letter to US President Donald Trump.

“I fully agree with every point raised by the President. For us, restarting and deepening our relations with the US is fundamentally important. At the same time, we support President Trump in delivering on two key promises - defeating the so-called deep state and ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Both are crucial issues for our country, but above all, we act based on Georgia’s national interests. As highlighted in the letter, we are ready for a strategic partnership.

What happened under the previous [US] administration was a total disaster. Representatives of such a major state were shamelessly trying to convince us that black was white. They insulted us. Their statements were filled with lies, threats, and dirty propaganda - completely unacceptable. That is why all of our statements and letters have consistently indicated that we want to start anew. We are ready for friendship, cooperation, and partnership - and this must be mutual.

We are already seeing important developments in the region - for example, the recent peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Georgia, with its location, culture, and traditions, is a key country in this process, and we are ready for close cooperation.

For years, we have been warning about the global war party, and we were mocked for it. But the new US president made a statement the very next day, showing the whole world what the Georgian Dream had been saying all along. Today, one of the most serious challenges is defeating the so-called deep state.

Donald Trump laid it all out openly, naming the organizations involved in financing revolutions and coups in different countries, including Georgia. The smear campaign against us, framed as if our government is serving Russian interests, is further proof that we want to establish friendly and constructive relations with the US”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
