March 31 is a remarkable day in Georgia`s recent history. On this day in 1991, a nationwide referendum was held, during which the entire Georgian population, including those in Abkhazia and Samachablo, voted for the sovereign future of Georgia, making their voice heard across the world, writes the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"The March 31st referendum laid an unshakeable legal foundation upon which the modern Georgian state is built.

It is our duty to cherish this invaluable achievement, to honourably protect and strengthen the sovereignty established by the 1991 referendum", - writes Irakli Kobakhidze.
