Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia together with members of the government, hosted the Muslim community for Iftar.

The Head of Government of Georgia spoke about the role of the Muslim community in building a modern, strong Georgian state and extended his greetings for the upcoming Ramadan Bayram.

“It is a great honor for us to host you for Iftar again this year. This gathering is further proof that our brotherhood, unity and mutual respect are unwavering. I congratulate every Muslim in Georgia and the entire Muslim community on the holy month of Ramadan. Very soon, the Islamic world will celebrate Ramadan Bayram. This is a major celebration of unity and brotherhood, which the Georgian state shares with you. Our strength lies in the unity that connects the people living in Georgia on this land. Today, extremely complex events are taking place in the region and against this backdrop, it is especially symbolic that Sunni and Shia Muslims in Georgia pray together in one mosque. This is what makes Georgian Islam unique. I believe it is an example of peaceful coexistence and universal agreement for everyone to follow. I would also like to emphasize that the situation in the Middle East is currently very difficult. I wish our friendly countries the restoration of peace, which is an essential condition for people"s prosperity, progress and development. I wish peace to everyone”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

At the Iftar, speeches were delivered to the Muslim community by Zaza Vashakmadze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Affairs; Adam Shantadze, Mufti of Western Georgia; Faig Nabiev, Sheikh of the Muslims of Georgia and Etibar Eminov, Mufti of Eastern Georgia.

Iftar held in the name of the Prime Minister of Georgia for the Muslim community was attended by Thea Akhvlediani, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality; Kakha Guledani, Minister of Regional Development; Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of Government Administration.
