Speaker of the Georgian Parliament responds to the statement of the EU Ambassador to Georgia on the social network.

"It is true that for Mr. Herczynski, the past of the Georgian people was dark, but if there truly was anything dark in our history, it was the constant attempts of foreign powers to “strangle us with an embrace". It was so in the past, and it is the same today:

-Those who themselves encouraged the violence of October 4 are the ones speaking to us about violence.
-Those whose funding supports groups attacking the Church, the State, and human dignity are the ones warning us of civil war.
-Those who are dragging us into a sanctions war with Russia and condemning us to economic collapse and destitution are the ones lecturing us on poverty.
-Those who try to justify, through lies and deceit, a regime under which human rights violations, racketeering, and torture were turned into state policy are the ones talking to us about a dark past.

As for the Georgian people, their true face appeared clearly in 2024. These are people who decide their own fate, protect their own values, and do not give up their own path.

People, as a unity, are measured by such events and not by someone`s taste - universal days of gathering express the people. We saw the people at the 2024 elections. We saw the people during the days of farewell to the Patriarch. And we will see the people once again in a few days, on May 17 - united, firm, and based on their own faith and identity.

Against this background, the Ambassador speaking about "the people" is not only incorrect but is a classic example of political cynicism.

The greatest cynicism is that these accusations come from an environment where violence is romanticized and its organizers are heroized.

Finally, Georgia is always ready for constructive dialogue, and Brussels knows well what is necessary for this:

-Aggressive rhetoric towards Georgia must stop;
-Attacks on the elected government must stop;
-Hostile resolutions directed against the Georgian people must be abolished.

A relationship not based on respect cannot be a partnership. Real partnership begins when the parties perceive each other as equals.

Everyone must respect us as a country, a state, and a nation.

Georgia is not a peripheral colony that should be sacrificed to the interests of the metropolis. The Georgian people have consigned "Namestniks" and "Second Secretaries" to the `dark times`", - writes Shalva Papuashvili on his Facebook page.
