Active efforts underway to attract more airlines and expand destination diversity - Tamar Ioseliani

The Government of Georgia is working actively on a daily basis to increase the number of airlines in Georgia’s aviation market and to ensure that destinations were diversified. Such a statement made today Tamar Ioseliani, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

“Only in November information about several airlines was shared, which included a Chinese airline that added flights to Beijing, and therefore flights on the Tbilisi – Ürümqi – Beijing route would operate starting from December.

Also from December, Wizz Air will start flights from Kutaisi to Venice, while the European airline Condor Airlines will start operating daily flights on the Frankfurt – Tbilisi – Frankfurt route from summer, which is very important for connecting to the Frankfurt hub and for transatlantic transit flights.

I should also emphasize introduction to the Georgian market of the European, low-cost airline Norwegian through joint efforts, which would operate flights between Tbilisi and Copenhagen. This is a historic event, as there has never before been direct air travel between the capitals of Denmark and Georgia.

There are already about 70 airlines in Georgia’s aviation market, and I am sure that in both the short and long term we will have many more developments”, - said Tamar Ioseliani.
