A Turkish citizen tried to smuggle cocaine into Georgia hidden in a coffee package

Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance have arrested a citizen of the Republic of Turkey - M.A., born in 1958, on charges of illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotics and their import into Georgia.

The committed crimes envision up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Law enforcement officers detected a particularly large amount - up to 150 grams of the narcotic drug “cocaine” in the trunk of a passenger bus operated by the accused M.A. at the “Sarpi” border checkpoint using a special scanner.

The investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
