Mayor of Tbilisi said that it was “incomprehensible” that some opposition forces had identified August 7 as the date marking the start of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

“This is incomprehensible. Let’s look at when the commemoration of the war took place and review the archival materials, where it is very clear that it was August 8.

Perhaps we should ask the [United] National Movement why they changed the date. No one can rewrite history - we all know everything very well. I ask you to review specific archival video materials, where there are facts and evidence regarding all of this. There is also a resolution that they signed.

As a result of the actions of the UNM-led government, responsibility for the outbreak of the war was placed on the Georgian state and army…

I emphasize once again that these were treacherous actions against the Georgian state, and there must be an appropriate response to all of this.
