Instead of apologizing, he made it worse, claiming that not only Georgian soldiers but also volunteers executed prisoners without mercy - Zarkua on Baramidze’s statement

Instead of apologising for such stupidity, he [Giorgi Baramidze] said something even worse, claiming that captives were being executed not only by soldiers, but by civilians as well. Such a statement made today Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora Issues.

“This came from [Mikheil] Saakashvili’s former Defence Minister. These were the cowards he had around him, and it was through these cowards that he sought to subjugate the Georgian people. I do not rule out that this is a far-reaching calculation aimed at giving our enemies ammunition, if needed, to use this former Defence Minister’s statement against Georgia on the international stage.

I have never seen such madness. Instead of apologising and claiming he meant something else, he made matters worse by asserting that volunteers were showing captives no mercy either. His statement represents hostile intent towards his own people and state. Even now, they continue their sabotage to besmirch the country and equip the enemy with arguments against Georgia.

Saakashvili and his team are a fifth column. These people are foreign operatives who have served against Georgia one foreign state after another. Baramidze voted in favour of Georgia joining and remaining in the CIS. Baramidze is a cowardly, ordinary individual who has committed numerous acts against his own country”, - said Irakli Zarkua.

During his appearance on a podcast, Giorgi Baramidze stated that Georgian fighters were executing prisoners of war during the Abkhazia war. Following a sharp protest from the public and veterans, the member of the United National Movement/former Minister of Defense released a video message, explaining that the prisoners were killed not by the soldiers themselves, but rather by the people.
