In July of this year, employees of the National Forestry Agency detected 48 environmental violations, 41 of which involved illegal logging and timber transportation.

In total, up to 46 cubic meters of illegally obtained firewood and industrial timber of various tree species were seized and stored at the agency’s operational log yards. Nationwide, out of the illegal logging cases, 10 violations were recorded in Imereti, 4 in Samtskhe-Javakheti, 1 in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, 8 in Kvemo Kartli, 4 in Guria, 4 in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 7 in Kakheti, and 3 in the Shida Kartli region.

Additionally, 5 cases of unauthorized occupation of state forest land were identified across Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Guria, Shida Kartli, Kakheti, and Kvemo Kartli. Two unregistered sawmills were also uncovered in the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Imereti regions.

Overall, during the first seven months of the year, National Forestry Agency employees have detected 439 cases of illegal logging across the country.
