Nino Tandilashvili participates in Green Innovation Conference

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili, participated in the Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference in Hong Kong.

During the conference, she delivered a keynote address, highlighting Georgia’s sustainable development priorities, projects implemented to promote the green economy, and the importance of international cooperation.

Particular emphasis was placed on opportunities to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Georgia and China, as well as Georgia’s strategic location and the role of the Middle Corridor in strengthening transport and trade connectivity between Europe and Asia.

The First Deputy Minister underscored the importance of sustainable water resource management, the modernisation of irrigation infrastructure, and biodiversity conservation, noting that more than USD 300 million had been mobilised to develop irrigation and drainage infrastructure in Georgia with the support of the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

“More than 15% of Georgia’s territory is designated as national protected areas, while 23% of the country’s territory comprises areas of high conservation value protected under international conventions. This reflects the Georgian Government’s long-term vision for biodiversity conservation and the preservation of ecosystem resilience”, - said Nino Tandilashvili.

In her address, the First Deputy Minister also highlighted prospects for expanding cooperation with China in green technologies, waste management, renewable energy, and environmental initiatives.

On the sidelines of the conference, Tandilashvili attended an official reception hosted by John KC Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
