Mayor of Tbilisi criticized Brussels, accusing European institutions of interfering in the domestic affairs of sovereign nations.

His comments came in response to a journalist`s inquiry regarding the European Court of Justice`s recent ruling against Hungary over its 2021 LGBTQ+ law.

Kakha Kaladze drew parallels between the pressure faced by Budapest and the criticism directed at Georgia following the adoption of Law on the Protection of Family Values and Minors.

“Everyone knows very well what Brussels does and whether it interferes or not. We remember the kind of attacks we faced when we passed the law on the protection of family values. This continues today. They issue direct resolutions and calls for the law to be repealed. Ultimately, in the end, everyone is asked to do the same, they have this attitude towards both EU countries and those countries that have declared their path to the EU.

We have seen in recent years what kind of attacks, blackmail, threats there have been in relation to all this, which is categorically unacceptable. We have repeatedly stated that we do not interfere in anyone`s private life - people should live as they wish. However, propaganda of this is unacceptable and categorically inadmissible", - said the Mayor.
