The First Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction in the Parliament, reviewed the prospects of rebooting Georgia-US relations.
“You can clearly see the heavy legacy left by the previous U.S. administration. When people say that the Georgian Dream, to put it bluntly, criticized America, it’s because relations were in this state.
First of all, we have always distinguished between America as a country and the administrations, Europe, and Euro-bureaucrats. Second, we were in a defensive position. They are the ones hostile to Donald Trump and the current administration.
Therefore, we share common ground in values, common adversaries, assessments of Eurocrats, evaluations of the war in Ukraine, and our views on USAID and NED - we are completely aligned.
Every step on our side has already been taken, from openly supporting Donald Trump during the election period to sharing similar perspectives and messages now. Nothing should stand in the way of rebooting relations. Positive signs are visible. The US knows that at any time we can sit down together and outline a roadmap specifying all steps to be taken - by us and by the Americans - while ensuring that the interests of both sides are fully considered”, - said Levan Machavariani.
