The practice of granting permission for the cultivation of vineyards is in force in all wine-producing countries of the EU - Levan Mekhuzla

Wine producers are well aware of how crucial vine seedling quality, planting exposure, soil composition, and grape varieties are for high-quality wine production. When planting commercial vineyards, everything must comply with the standards that allow for a high-quality grape harvest and, consequently, high-quality wine. If an entrepreneur takes all this into account, they will face no obstacles in obtaining consent for cultivation. Against the backdrop of declining wine consumption in the global market and high competition, this is the only way to ensure the production of a top-quality product, explained Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency [NWA].

The Parliament of Georgia has already supported the amendments to the "Law On Vine and Wine" in its first reading. According to the changes, a norm is added to the law defining the concept of "consent for vineyard cultivation", which is interpreted as follows: a document issued by the Legal Entity of Public Law, the NWA, which grants a physical and/or legal entity the right to plant a commercial vineyard. The goal of these changes is to promote the production of high-quality, competitive alcoholic beverages of grape origin, as well as to meet the requirements of local and international markets necessary for sales.

According to Levan Mekhuzla, the practice of granting consent for vineyard cultivation is established and operational in all wine-producing countries of the European Union. The consent for vineyard cultivation will be issued by the NWA free of charge.

Obtaining a permit for vineyard cultivation will only be mandatory for those planning commercial activities and does not apply to those intending to plant a vineyard for personal consumption.
