At today`s meeting, the Government approved the concept of higher education reform. The Prime Minister of Georgia once again emphasized the exceptional importance of reforming the higher education system, including from the perspective of strengthening national security.

"The goal of the reform is for Georgian students to receive university education of the highest standards here in Georgia. We all clearly understand the significance of education and an educated society. The most dangerous thing for a country is a society that is insufficiently or poorly educated. Therefore, we must give special importance to education reform. An inadequately educated society is easily manipulated, easily influenced by external interference and fertile ground for sowing hatred. It is easy to spread ideologies such as Bolshevism, fascism and whatever else is modern liberal fascism today. Those forces that deliberately weakened the education system for 9 years understood very well that national security is directly linked to education. In our country, an educated society is best able to defend the nation`s interests, independence and security. Our nation`s ill-wishers also understood this and therefore, from 2004 to 2012, they paid special attention to weakening and undermining both higher and general education systems. What was damaged in the 1990s and later in 2004-2012 must now be corrected and this is the key goal of the higher education concept", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to the Head of Government of Georgia, the concept includes all necessary components of the reform - institutional optimization, improvement of staffing policies, development of modern-standard curricula and textbooks, integration of teaching and research, aligning higher education priorities with labor market demands and improvement of the funding system.

"From today, the Ministry of Infrastructure will begin developing the concept for the corresponding infrastructure. This will be modern, high-standard infrastructure developed between Tbilisi and Rustavi, as well as in Kutaisi. It will include modern working spaces, auditoriums, scientific laboratories, libraries, cultural and sports facilities, and dormitories. We must create two small paradises for our future students", - said the Prime Minister, adding that tomorrow the concept of general education will also be presented to the public by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth.
