Tbilisi City Court held pre-trial hearing for former Head of Co-Investment Fund Giorgi Bachiashvili in Mtkvari HPP Case. Today`s hearing discussed the admissibility of evidence and referred the case to the court for consideration on the merits.

Bachiashvili also attended the hearing. He has been charged with failure to perform or improper performance of official duties by a person with special authority, which resulted in serious consequences.

The crime is punishable by 2 to 5 years of imprisonment.

"The following main circumstances caused the loss in this project. The first is the drilling machine getting stuck in the tunnel and a landslide, which Bachiashvili could never have controlled. Second, the project was extended due to the COVID pandemic, during which there was a lockdown and the workers were unable to fulfill their obligations", - says Levan Makharashvili, lawyer of Giorgi Bachiashvili.
