Irakli Garibashvili fully cooperated with the investigation and admitted to receiving illegal income over the years - SSSG

The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia [SSSG] interrogated former Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili fully cooperated with the investigation, admitted to receiving illegal income over the years. Emzar Gagnidze, Director of the Georgian State Security Service’s Anti-Corruption Agency, said this at today`s briefing.

"As you are aware, intensive and comprehensive operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding various criminal cases. These have included searches of multiple residences, including those of former high-ranking political officials and individuals associated with them, conducted over the past few days.

Additionally, we inform the public that today, the former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was questioned at the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service, where he fully cooperated with the investigation and admitted to receiving illegal income over the years.

Accordingly, in the coming days, the investigation will review, based on existing and additionally obtained evidence, both the qualification of his actions and the selection of a preventive measure against him, which will also be communicated to the public", - said Emzar Gagnidze.

On October 17, searches were carried out at the residences of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, former head of the SSSG Grigol Liluashvili, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, and 8 other individuals associated with them. The Prosecutor`s Office reported that various electronic devices, documents, and a substantial amount of cash were seized during these searches.
