The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) has been honored with the 2025 Consumer Education Award by the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) and the World Bank in the category of “Developing and Implementing an Effective Communication Strategy in Business-Consumer Relations.
The award ceremony was held on 3 October 2025 in the Dominican Republic, where Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), represented the Agency.
This prestigious recognition highlights the Agency’s significant achievements in establishing and promoting a transparent, inclusive, and accessible communication framework aimed at strengthening consumer protection and trust in the marketplace. The initiative was launched by the Agency in 2024 as part of the „National Strategy for Consumer Protection“, which identifies effective communication between businesses and consumers as a central mechanism for ensuring a fair, transparent, and trustworthy market environment. Under this strategy, the GCCA implemented comprehensive, multi-stage information campaigns, including: Public communication through media channels and promotion of the Agency’s decisions and standards; Ensuring accessibility of information materials for persons with disabilities; Awareness-raising activities targeting ethnic minority communities; Continuous educational programs in schools and universities across Georgia; Development and dissemination of practical methodological guidlines for businesses and consumers.
The communication strategy has significantly increased awareness among businesses and consumers nationwide, contributing to a 45% rise in consumer engagement with the Agency and the voluntary adoption of standards set by the GCCA.
Alongside Irakli Lekvinadze, Sergo Sanikidze, Head of the Consumer Rights Protection Department attended the event in the Dominican Republic.
