The First Vice Prime Minister / Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development officially introduced today Lasha Abashidze, who has been appointed General Director of Georgian Railways.
As Levan Davitashvili said, Abashidze “brings valuable leadership experience from both the railway sector and public service, which will ensure a swift and effective transition”: “I would like to with you success in your new role. The smooth operation of the railway is critically important for Georgia’s economy, especially in light of the ongoing development of the Middle Corridor. Our goal is to increase both cargo volumes and revenue”.
Lasha Abashidze previously worked at Georgian Railways between 2006 and 2009, holding key positions such as Head of the Procurement Agency, Deputy Director of Freight Transportation, Head of Operations Management.
He has a law degree and a master’s degree in public administration management.
Abashidze’s public service background includes serving as Vice Mayor of Tbilisi (2015–2017), Governor of the Vake District (2014–2015), Head of the Presidential Administration (2013–2014).
