I realized that it will not work this way. Generally, regarding traumas, I believe it will not work this way. Historical memory is very important for a nation, but traumatic memory is dangerous, it carries threats, it acts like an anchor, it does not let you move forward, and it blocks development. One of the opposition leaders, Nika Gvaramia, said this in the interview with “Formula TV”.
While speaking about the Abkhazia war, Gvaramia stated that he is amazed by Nikol Pashinyan [Prime Minister of Armenia] because he removed Ararat from the official stamp to warm relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan, and also surrendered Karabakh. As he added, Armenian Prime Minister managed to overcome historical traumas in the shortest possible time, which will bring Armenia more money and the perspective of moving towards the EU.
“I admire Pashinyan because what he managed to do was overcome historical traumas. That is an extremely difficult process that usually takes decades, yet he achieved it in a very short period of time…
Pashinyan acknowledged that Mount Ararat, while an important part of Armenian history, is not part of Armenia’s current geography. Such decisions could help Armenia improve relations with its neighbors, strengthen economic prospects, reduce dependence on Russia, and advance toward European integration.
As of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia ultimately accepted a reality that would allow the country to focus on its future development… Historical territorial disputes exist throughout the region and should not prevent countries from pursuing pragmatic policies.
Overcoming historical traumas can create new economic opportunities and improve a country’s prospects for closer integration with the European Union”, - explained Nika Gvaramia.
