Irakli Lekvinadze presents ICPEN Presidency priorities to member state representatives at UNCTAD high-level meeting

Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), participated in a high-level international meeting organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.

Addressing the opening panel in his capacity as ICPEN President, the Chairman outlined the Agency’s priorities for the year ahead and presented its forthcoming initiatives, underlining that GCCA’s objective is to promote open, outcome-oriented cooperation among member authorities.

"The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency will focus its efforts on three principal priorities: first, supporting new and emerging consumer protection authorities; second, safeguarding consumer rights in the context of artificial intelligence and digital markets; and third, ensuring the protection of vulnerable consumers. Georgia looks forward to close cooperation with UNCTAD, ICPEN member states and partner organisations throughout its 2026-2027 Presidency, with a view to building fairer, more trustworthy and more inclusive markets for consumers", - said Irakli Lekvinadze.

He further noted that, under the ICPEN Presidency, Tbilisi will host a high-level international conference in September, bringing together representatives from close to 80 countries. The central message of the Agency’s ICPEN Presidency is "Building Trust in the Digital Age": "Consumer trust underpins a fair marketplace, and international cooperation, effective enforcement and innovative approaches are essential to its reinforcement".

As part of the visit, Irakli Lekvinadze will also take part in the twenty-third session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy, to be held from 8 to 10 July. Sergo Sanikidze, Head of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, is accompanying the Chairman in Geneva.
