The 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions has concluded. The Georgian delegation expressed concern over the so-called agreement signed in May regarding cooperation between Russia and the occupying regime in Tskhinvali.
Emphasis was placed on the necessity for Russia to fully fulfill its international obligations and the safe return of internally displaced persons to their homes. The next meeting will be held in November. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia spoke about the ongoing process. Lasha Darsalia assessed this round of negotiations as one of the most difficult.
"Just like in previous rounds, as soon as the issue touched upon identifying displaced persons, the Russian delegation left the negotiation table.
There was a rather difficult background. As you know, over the recent years, we have had a whole series of developments. Regarding the occupied territories, there were so-called treaties, their rushed implementation, the appointment of Russian citizens to positions in the occupied territories, as well as a tense security environment and a difficult humanitarian situation - all these issues were part of the negotiation process.
In accordance with existing practice, we do not discuss specifics, but what can be clearly stated is that it was one of the most difficult rounds", - said Lasha Darsalia.
