Recommendations on AI adopted at the 67th PABSEC General Assembly

The 67th PABSEC General Assembly was held in the village of Mepiskalaki, Kaspi Municipality. The central theme of the Assembly was "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Promoting Regional Cooperation: Innovation, Connectivity and Sustainable Development in the Black Sea Region".

More than 100 delegates from the Organization`s member states participated in the parliamentary forum. They held discussions on the role and significance of artificial intelligence in advancing regional cooperation and economic development, heard relevant reports, and adopted recommendations for national parliaments.

As part of the 67th General Assembly, meetings of the Committee on Legal Affairs and International Cooperation and the Committee on Social and Humanitarian Policy were held. During these sessions, the Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Delegation, Irakli Mezurnishvili, presented a report entitled "Legal Aspects of Digital Governance and Innovation in the Black Sea Region".

Participants in the parliamentary forum also discussed organizational matters related to the upcoming autumn session of the General Assembly and approved the composition of the national delegations.

"During the General Assembly, we considered a number of highly interesting reports. The parliamentary forum focused on artificial intelligence, which has become an increasingly important aspect of modern life. Artificial intelligence is becoming an integral part of our daily lives, and countries are already exploring how it can be used as effectively as possible to facilitate logistics and trade within the framework of Black Sea Economic Cooperation. Our objective is to harness the potential of artificial intelligence in a way that further strengthens ties among our states. This, in turn, will have a direct positive impact on economic growth.

It is also significant that Georgia will hold the position of Vice-President of the Organization for the next two years. We will make the fullest use of this opportunity to effectively promote and safeguard our country's interests in the international arena and to ensure an even more active role for Georgia", - said Irakli Mezurnishvili, Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Delegation and Vice-President of PABSEC.

According to him, the fact that the General Assembly was hosted in Georgia deserves particular attention: "The parliamentary forum, which brought together more than 100 delegates from ten countries, was held in the village of Mephistskaro, Kaspi Municipality, in the Shida Kartli region. This sends a clear message that major international events can be successfully hosted not only in the capital but also throughout Georgia`s regions. It reflects the Government of Georgia’s strong commitment to regional development".
