The feature-length documentary Echoes of Wine has been available on SOMM TV since 1 July. The film introduces viewers to Georgia’s unique natural landscapes, vineyards, and rich wine culture, while highlighting the dedication of a new generation of winemakers. It places particular emphasis on the ancient qvevri winemaking tradition and the diversity of Georgia’s indigenous grape varieties.
Featuring Georgia as one of the world’s oldest winemaking countries on SOMM TV`s highly rated programs will make a significant contribution to increasing the visibility of Georgian wine and boosting its sales in the strategically important U.S. market.
The film`s release was preceded by a preview article entitled "The Country That Keeps Calling You Back: Echoes of Wine", published on the official SOMM TV website. "Georgia is a country with an extraordinary and profound connection to wine. It has been producing wine continuously for more than 8,000 years, and there is no aspect of life in the country that has not been shaped by this tradition. Nestled between Europe and Asia and surrounded by mountains, this remarkable land has become the true cradle of wine. Following an 8,000-year winemaking history and several decades under the Soviet regime, which threatened traditional methods, Georgian winemaking is now experiencing a remarkable renaissance", - the article states.
In May of this year, a SOMM TV film crew visited Georgia under organization and financial support of the National Wine Agency.
On 8 May, the crew attended the celebrations marking National Wine Day and also visited wineries in the Kakheti and Kartli wine regions, where they became acquainted with Georgia`s centuries-old winemaking traditions and contemporary wine culture.
