As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with General prosecutor’s Office, G.L. and Sh.G. had been detained on the fact of the attempt of misappropriation of property of another person in large quantities by deceit, by prior agreement as a group.

Investigation revealed that the accused individuals convinced a citizen, who needed to obtain a construction permit in Tbilisi, that G.L. allegedly held a senior position in the State Security Service and based on his official status, he would assist in the process of issuing a permit from the Tbilisi City Hall for the construction of a multi-apartment residential building on a land plot within the shortest possible time frame. In exchange for that, the accused demanded a total of USD 70 000.

On August 22, 2025, the accused individuals took USD 10 000 in advance from a citizen, and were detained immediately after the sum had been given to them.

Investigation is underway under the Article 19, the second and third parts of Article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which as a type and extent of sentence, envisage imprisonment from six to nine years.
