One person detained on the fact of illegal transportation of especially large quantity of gold jewelry across the customs border

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by employees of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, together with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service and in coordination with the General Prosecutor`s Office of Georgia, one person was detained on the fact of violation of the rules of movement of especially large quantity of goods across the customs border.

Investigation determined that a citizen of Georgia transported 1,851 grams of gold jewelry across the customs border of Georgia, hidden from the customs control in specially arranged hiding places in the cabin of the motor vehicle under his control, through the customs check-point of "Sarpi". The customs value of the seized jewelry equals GEL 411,962.

The investigation is underway under Article 214, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.
