Behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump said he would like a second meeting following his Friday summit to also take place in Alaska.
“I’d like to see it actually happen maybe in Alaska where we just stayed because it’s so much easier. But I think that, I think it’s going to be very interesting. We’re going to find out where everybody stands and I’ll know within the first two minutes. Three minutes, four minutes to five minutes. We tend to find out whether or not we’re going to have a good meeting or a bad meeting and if it’s a bad meeting, it’ll end very quickly. And if it’s a good meeting, we’re going to end up getting peace in the pretty near future. I would say that tomorrow [August 15] all I want to do is set the table for the next meeting, which should happen shortly. I’d like to see it actually happen, maybe in Alaska, where we just stay because it’s so much easier”, - Trump told reporters.
In a radio interview with Fox News Thursday, Trump expanded on the possibility of another Alaska summit: “I don’t know where we’re gonna have the second meeting, but we have an idea of three different locations and we’ll be including the possibility because it would be by far the easiest of staying in Alaska”.
It follows previous statements from the president throughout the week Friday is likely to be a “feel-out meeting” between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump. “It was always going to be, I was going to meet with President Putin and then after that I’m going to call the leaders and President Zelenskyy”, Trump said at a press conference at the Kennedy Center Wednesday. “There’s a very good chance that we’re going to have a second meeting, which will be more productive than the first because the first is [where] I’m going to find out where we are and what we’re doing.”
But if a deal is not struck, Trump warned there would be “severe consequences” for Russia.
