David Songulashvili meets with Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Zurab Pataradze

As part of his regional visit to Adjara, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, met with the Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Zurab Pataradze.

The parties discussed key priorities for the development of Adjara’s agricultural sector, farmer support programs, and plans for advancing the industry.

According to Minister, regional visits are essential for gaining a deeper understanding of local needs and priorities, ensuring that state policy and regional development visions are aligned as closely as possible: “I had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the Chair of the Government of Adjara’s vision and key priorities for advancing the agricultural sector. These priorities align with the central government’s policies and strategic objectives for the development of Georgia’s agricultural sector. Close coordination is crucial, as Adjara has significant agricultural development potential. Therefore, it is essential to identify priority areas and strengthen support mechanisms so that we can fully utilize the opportunities in the region”.

The meeting also focused on measures to enhance the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and protect crop production, including the importance of coordinated action between central and regional authorities in combating the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB).

“During the meeting, we discussed several important issues, programs, and projects being implemented in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara with the support of the central Government. The discussion was highly productive, as we reviewed the needs of our farmers, the challenges facing individual municipalities, and the opportunities that can further accelerate the development of the agricultural sector”, - said Zurab Pataradze.

As part of his visit to the region, the Minister will participate in the event “Supporting Rural and Agricultural Development in Adjara” and will also inspect ongoing measures against the brown marmorated stink bug in Kobuleti.
