Three years since the Shovi tragedy. On August 3, 2023, a devastating mudslide struck the territory of the Shovi resort, resulting in casualties.

The tragedy claimed the lives of 33 people. Shovi was completely cut off from the outside world. However, 152 citizens trapped at the resort were safely evacuated. During the search and rescue operations, two more people tragically lost their lives.

According to the experts` official report, the disaster was triggered by a convergence of several natural phenomena. In the Bubistskali River valley, there was an intense melting of the glacier combined with heavy precipitation at the headwaters, a rockslide, landslide-erosion processes, and a mudslide.
