Chairman of the Parliament`s European Integration Committee said the previous US administrations were directly involved in interference through NGO funding mechanisms aimed at promoting a specific liberal ideology and expanding their own influence abroad.

Levan Makhashvili noted this while commenting on the US Department of State’s published Strategic Plan, which emphasises that the US will not allow international organisations to become tools in the hands of its opponents to attack Americans and US partners.

As he underlined, it was encouraging that what he described as an era of distorted liberal ideology was gradually coming to an end.

"The US, as one of the main funders, has decided to step away from these processes. This will contribute to healthier developments - greater respect for other societies and states, and the building of relations based on national and shared interests, rather than gaining influence in other societies through various illegal schemes and methods", - added Levan Makhashvili.
