For us, [Volodymyr] Zelensky, who is pursuing an openly hostile policy against Georgia and its people, is not the measure of our support, our true measure is the Ukrainian people, whom we wish to stand by. Such a statement made today Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.
“The only thing that might seem surprising is that, in light of the ingratitude displayed by the Ukrainian government, specifically President Zelensky, towards the Georgian people, some may find it unexpected that Georgia continues to support such actions and measures. However, for us, President Zelenskyy, who is pursuing an openly hostile policy against Georgia and its people, is not the measure of our support. Our true measure is the Ukrainian people, whom we wish to stand by during this difficult period.
We do not act out of fear of offending or upsetting anyone; rather, our decisions are guided by the national interests of the Georgian people and the broader principles we uphold. We are taking steps that serve our national interests and do not compromise our core priorities. We refuse to be used as a tool to ignite conflict around Russia, nor do we want Georgia to become a puppet, just as some forces are using Ukraine as a puppet against Russia.
For those in Georgia who wave a foreign flag, the decisions taken by the Georgian government are incomprehensible. They believe that Georgia should raise the Ukrainian flag, and that behaviour exemplifies their approach. As a result, their actions are perplexing. In reality, they fail to understand that we support the Ukrainian people despite President Zelenskyy’s hostile policies towards Georgia and the ingratitude he personally demonstrates through various decisions against the Georgian nation”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
