The National Film Center of Georgia, on behalf of the country, will submit a Georgian film for the American Academy Award “Oscar”.

According to the agency, the film will be submitted in the Best International Feature Film category for the 99th Academy Awards ceremony in 2027.

“To choose the film to be submitted for the award, the National Film Center has announced a competition, and will accept contest applications from August 4 to August 21 until 17:00.

The film to be submitted for the Academy Award must meet several criteria, including:

---the film’s running time must exceed 40 minutes;
---it must be produced in Georgia;
---at least 50% of the film’s dialogue must be in a language other than English;
---the film must be publicly screened in a commercial movie theater for at least 7 consecutive days;
---the majority of the creative team must consist of citizens or residents of Georgia;
---the completion date of the film to be submitted by the country must fall between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.

A special committee will select the submission candidate film through a secret ballot. The results will be announced by September 14, 2026”, - reads the released information.
