Police have arrested 75 people on drug-related charges within the last 48 hours - a particularly large amount of drugs seized

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to intensively implement strict measures against drug-related crimes as defined by the legislation, said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs at today`s briefing.

"Law enforcement officers conducted another successful police operation simultaneously in Tbilisi and the regions of the countries.

Over the past 48 hours, 75 people have been arrested on drug-related charges, including both Georgian and foreign citizens. The detainees are charged with illegal purchase, storage, sale and facilitation of sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The evidence obtained as a result of the secret investigative actions carried out on the basis of the judge`s ruling, namely audio and video recordings, confirmed that the majority of the detainees were selling narcotics on the regular basis, and they used various ways and methods for sale.

As a result of the personal search of the defendants and their belongings, vehicles and residential buildings, as well as during the conducted investigative experiment, law enforcement officers seized as evidence a large amount of various narcotics and psychotropic substances prepared for sale from the places indicated by them, including: "Cocaine", "Heroin", "Alpha PVP", "MDMA", "Methadone", "Subotex", "Buprenorphine", "Pregabalin", "Lyrica" and "Marijuana".

The police also seized firearms, materials needed for packaging narcotics, and cash allegedly received from drug sales.

The investigation is in progress under Articles 260, 260 (3), 260 (4), and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment", - Giorgi Sakhokia.
