Merz demands that Ukrainians should stay in their own country instead of coming to Germany

Chancellor Merz is urging the Ukrainian president to "vigorously advance" the fight against corruption. He also wants Ukrainians to remain in their own country instead of coming to Germany. All developments in the live ticker, writes WELT.

“In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is facing pressure not only because of a corruption scandal in the energy sector. After almost four years of Russian aggression, his country is also coming under increasing military pressure.

Chancellor Merz advocates that young men from Ukraine, in particular, should "serve their service in their country" instead of leaving for Germany. He said he had "asked President Zelenskyy to ensure this", speaking at the German-Ukrainian Trade Congress in Berlin. "They are needed" in Ukraine, Merz added.

The Chancellor also reaffirmed government plans to eliminate entitlement to citizen`s income for refugees from Ukraine. Instead, they will receive lower payments under the Asylum Seekers` Benefits Act".
