Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, assessed the meeting with the PACE members and stated that at the meeting, the PACE representatives were informed of their fairly strong position regarding the Transparency Law.

"We explained very clearly that we have a fairly strong position regarding the Transparency Law. We adopted it taking into account the Constitution of Georgia, therefore, we believe that this law does not in any way violate any of the rights listed in the European Convention on Human Rights. Therefore, we clearly told them that this law is being appealed, both in the Constitutional Court and in Strasbourg. Accordingly, let`s wait for the discussions. Among other things, we also provided information that neither the Constitutional Court of Georgia nor the Strasbourg Court saw an immediate threat in this law. Accordingly, it didn`t request a temporary suspension of this law", - said the Chairman.

He also spoke about the issue of condemnation of violence by PACE members. According to him, PACE representatives explained that reporters and speakers do not assess the general political situation and do not assess the actions of various political actors, but rather they assess how Georgia fulfills its obligations.
