We urge the government of Georgia to listen to its people, to be inclusive, to talk to civil society, and follow their wish to become a part of Europe, said the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, in Luxembourg ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
"We will also discuss the worrying developments in Georgia. The people of Georgia have shown in the last 3 elections, in the ongoing protest, but the polls are also showing that they want a European future, not the government. Their government, apparently, doesn’t listen to its own people and doesn’t want to go the European way.
The opponents, as you know, are jailed, and the journalists, civil society organizations are silent. At the same time, the disinformation against Europe, the EU, is not only promoted but also led by those who are in power. So, we condemn those false narratives and we condemn all the attacks on the European institutions, on the representatives of the European institutions, and our member states. We urge the government of Georgia to listen to its people, to be inclusive, to talk to civil society, and follow their wish to become a part of Europe", - said Marta Kos.
