Industrial building catches fire in Villefranche-sur-Saône, near Lyon, 800 people evacuated

A fire broke out at an industrial building in Villefranche-sur-Saône on Tuesday, October 14. Eight hundred people were evacuated from the area, while around one hundred firefighters responded to the scene, writes French media.

An industrial building dedicated to the manufacture of automotive equipment caught fire in Villefranche-sur-Saône on Tuesday, October 14, as reported by the prefect on the social network X. The fire was contained by early afternoon. The prefecture assures that "air measurements do not detect any toxicity” and that “new readings are being taken continuously". Nearly 6,500 square meters of fire have been burned, but the risk of further spread has been eliminated. Around 100 firefighters, supported by CRS and national police officers, have been mobilized to the scene.
"800 people have been evacuated from the damaged company and neighboring businesses", the prefect informed around 1 p.m. She also specified that "six schools and a childcare facility are in lockdown". These lockdowns were lifted around 12:30 p.m. The security perimeter, covering 300 meters around the fire, remains in place as of early this afternoon. Around the fire, "a large plume of smoke" was visible at the end of the morning.
